About me
I am a moral and political philosopher working mostly on trust in people, experts (primarily medical and public health), politics, and social institutions.
I am currently a Senior Research Officer (postdoctoral researcher) with the Leverhulme Competition and Competitiveness project based in philosophy at the University of Essex. I am part of an interdisciplinary team investigating conceptual, historical, and normative questions about competition and competitive social relations, including market competition and agonistic practices. Most of my work for the project focuses on meritocracy and distributive justice.
Prior to this I worked for two years as a Lecturer with the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Cambridge. I completed my PhD in philosophy at the University of Essex in 2013, and between this and my return to academic employment in 2018 I worked as an administrator in research impact.
In the past I have written about and taught post-Kantian European philosophy, with specialisation in Nietzsche, and still write about Nietzsche when the opportunity arises.
